Thunderbird doesn’t come with a built-in backup capability by default. The backup/restore options so differ significantly from those of other mail clients.
.eml files are one way to backup your email messages:
Select the appropriate mails while still in Thunderbird. CTRL+A may also be used to select every message.
Your messages will be highlighted when you choose File >> Save As >> File.
Messages are saved.
I’m done now! An.eml file will be created to store your messages.
Drag and drop the.eml file(s) into an existing or new mailbox to restore the messages.
PROFILE
Additionally, Thunderbird stores data in «profiles.» These might serve as «backups.»
